Frequently Asked Questions Are all Kindermusik programs the same? No. Each Kindermusik educator sets her own class schedule, program policies, and tuition and registration prices. We are not a franchise (like Gymboree) we are licensed, independent instructors.
How are you able to charge less than others in the area? By not teaching through a city recreation department, and using word-of-mouth advertising instead of print ads, I am able to keep my overhead very low. By keeping my prices affordable, I do hope to be able to reach more families with the Kindermusik Experience.
Can I preview a class prior to enrolling? Yes. Please go the Preview page of this website for more details.
Can I attend Kindermusik on a drop in basis? No. Our program builds on repetition. Regular weekly attendance is required to achieve the Kindermusik experience.
Can I make up a missed class? Yes! If you miss a class, and would like a Free make up, just contact me within 48 hours of your absence. If I have space in another class, which I usually do, you will be offered a make up.
Can I bring my baby to my older child’s Our Time (18 months to 4 year olds) class? No, your Toddler/Preschooler will need your full attention during Kindermusik Class.
My 16 month old is very “advanced” and moves around a lot. May we enroll in the 18 month class? No, this is not a good idea on several levels, and does not benefit your child, or the class. Kindermusik Village is the place for 16 month olds.
Is Kindermusik different than other music programs for young children? The biggest difference between Kindermusik and other music and child development programs ... is in the music. Kindermusik crosses cultures, and countries, and languages. They collect, record, archive and distribute songs that literally have stood the test time. The tunes that were lovingly passed on one from generation to the next, one parent and child at a time, are still as relevant today. Kindermusik goes to all this trouble collecting this music for a good reason: the children. Exposure to a wide variety of music is good for them. Please visit Kindermusik International’s website for more information. www.kindermusik.com
Do we play a lot of instruments at Kindermusik? Yes, instrument exploration and play are cornerstones of the Kindermusik program, and these activities are mixed in with object play, fine and gross motor movement, listening, chanting, vocal play and much more! Presented in a non-performance based atmosphere, children will learn many musical elements: timbre, tempo, dynamics, etc. using high-quality, safe, REAL, musical instruments such as: drums, shakers, bells, whistles, small percussion, strings, and more!
My child is very active, I don’t think he will sit still in a music class. Your child is permitted to move about the room the whole time if he wants to! Very small children will learn music the same way they learn English: simply by being in the environment. New walkers will seem to walk and walk constantly sometimes for many months and we do not try to discourage them in any way. Moving is learning! Now, your class experience will end up requiring a lot of movement as well, if your child is a real mover. Adults are not permitted to sit and watch their children roam, they will need to be up and about with their child to participate in the class. (So eat a good breakfast!)
Why can’t I bring my child’s snack or toy into the room? There is a time and place for everything. Toys and Food do not belong in a Music Classroom.
Do I have to buy the Home Materials? Yes, everyone enrolled in Kindermusik must purchase a set of Home Materials. If you need help affording Kindermusik, contact me directly to discuss options.
Can I bring my child’s Grandparents to class with me? Yes, (especially the singing ones!)
Can I send someone other myself to class to participate with my child? Absolutely: nannies, aunts, uncles, grandparents, are all welcomed as class participants. But if you will send another adult to participate with your child, you must make sure they understand the policies regarding arriving 2 minutes early, no food or toys, and that singing and dancing are “required”.
Can I bring a friend to preview? Please have your friend schedule their preview class through this website. ALL available class times are listed at the PREVIEW page.
Can I enroll in the middle of a session? Yes, I continue to take enrollments all year as class space is available. Mid session enrollments are offered with prorated tuition for the remainder of the session.
