“Hi Melissa, I just had to email you and tell you that Gabe did his first sign today! Very ironic since we were just discussing it in class. He did the sign for MILK very clearly and looked directly at his milk! I was blown away...it really works! Now I am sucked in and ready for him to learn more! Thank You!”
- Holly, mother of Gabe, 11 months

“Hey Melissa, just wanted to share with you that Carter signed LIGHT for the first time on Sunday. We always sign LIGHT when we turn on the light in the morning. Well, on Sunday when I asked him if he wanted the light on, he looked at me, looked at the light, and signed LIGHT. Toooo cool! A big thanks for all your guidance!”
- Gretchen, mother of Carter, 11 months

“Hello Melissa, I wanted to thank you for the seminar on Baby Sign Language. Jack now signs MILK, BIRD, and just started MORE and HELP and I think POTTY, though this one he does as more of some kind of crazy wave. This has been really fun and rewarding and a great assurance that we are connecting with him, and he with us.”
- Brenda, mother of Jack, 13 months

Sign Language for Hearing Babies

My name is Melissa Ayotte and when my daughter (pictured above) was a baby, her brother and I taught her to use signs.  Like all signing parents, I had a wonderful experience!  Signing is a truly magical gift to a child.  Since then, I’ve helped many families learn to sign with their Babies and Toddlers.  I offer workshops, musical playclasses, and host a monthly signing playgroup which is FREE and always open to new members.

Please scroll down the page to find out about my classes and events.

Why use sign language?

All Babies communicate non-verbally and learn to wave “Bye Bye”.  Teaching your child to use Sign Language is nothing more than an extension of this natural communication, and signing has profound benefits for both parents and children.

· Much less whining, crying, and feeling frustrated

· Wants and needs clearly communicated, less guesswork for caregivers

· Nurtures the parent-child bond

· Higher self esteem leading to increased confidence & social skills

· Higher IQ test scores when older (NIH study by Drs Acredolo & Goodwyn)

· Earlier verbal skills.

· More advanced and complex sentences (3 year olds speak like 4 year olds!!)

Even if your child speaks a few words, there are no doubt many more things he/she wants to say, and signing makes that happen!
